Palumeu tour - 5 days

Day 01
Departure by small airplane from Paramaribo (local airport Zorg & Hoop) to airstrip Palumeu (approx. 1.15 hour). Arrival followed by check-in. Departure by boat to Palawa island. Picknick-lunch and opportunity to swim and relax in the rapids. In the afternoon, return trip and visit to Amerindian village Palumeu. Meeting with some of the village elders. After dinner, information about the culture of the Trio and Wajana Amerindians.

Day 02
After breakfast, departure by boat to Poti Hill for a walk and short climb to the top. Picnic- lunch on Palawa island. Late afternoon, boat trip to the village Palumeu for a further introduction and explanation of the lifestyle of the Amerindians. After dinner, a demonstration of some Amerindian musical instruments. Afterwards, a boat trip by night on the river.

Day 03
In the morning, a boat trip (1 1/2 hours) to the impressive Mabuka rapids. A walk in the forest and opportunity to swim, relax and fish. In the afternoon, return to Palumeu. For those who are interested, opportunity to visit the village to try a hand with the locals at 'bow and arrow shooting'. After dinner, enjoy an atmospheric campfire under the starry sky (if the weather permits).

Day 04
Early morning, a walk through the rainforest with a local guide (approx. 2 1/2 hrs). The rest of the afternoon is kept free for your own activities. For those who are interested, opportunity to go fishing or peddle in a dug-out canoe with the local people. After dinner, an atmospheric campfire under the starry sky (if the weather permits).

Day 05
After breakfast, a walk to the Amerindian village where you have the opportunity to purchase self-made souvenirs. After lunch, return-flight to Paramaribo.

Note: The program may change due to special weather- or cultural conditions.

If you wish to do so, and if possible, you can participate in individual activities with the local people. A small consideration will be asked for the local people for these activities.
