Awarradam tour - 4 days
Day 01
Departure by small airplane from Paramaribo
(local airport Zorg & Hoop) to airstrip Kajana
(approx. 1 hour). Arrival, followed by a boat
trip to Awarradam (approx. 30 min). Lunch
will be served at Awarradam. After lunch,
visit to the Awarradam rapids where you have
the opportunity to swim and relax in the
rapids. Late afternoon, return to Awarradam.
After dinner, information about the
Saramaccan culture.
Day 02
In the morning, departure for a walk in the
rainforest with an explanation about the local
use of medicinal plants. Lunch at Awarradam.
In the afternoon, departure by boat (approx.
20 min) for a walk through the village and a
meeting with the highest authority or his substitute
in the village. Dinner will be served in the village
Kajana, located beautifully along the river.
After dinner, a cultural performance of
Saramaccan singing and dancing. Your active
participation herein will be greatly appreciated
by the local people. Late at night, a boat trip
under the magnificent starry sky, back to
Awarradam for overnight.
Day 03
Departure by boat to Grandam at Gran Rio
(approx. 1 hour) where you can swim and
relax in the Grandam rapids. In the afternoon,
return to Awarradam. Dinner at Awarradam.
The remainder of the evening is kept free
for your own activities.
Day 04
After breakfast, opportunity to swim and
relax in the Awarradam rapids. After lunch,
departure to airstrip Kajana for the return-
flight to Paramaribo. At Kajana you have
the opportunity to purchase self-made
souvenirs.
Note 1: The tour program may change due to
special cultural- or weather conditions.
Note 2: If you wish to do so, and if possible, you can
participate in individual activities with the local
people. A small consideration will be asked
for the local people for these activities.
Note 3: A 5 days trip is also possible.
